The Best Colon Cleanse for Weight Loss: Does a Colon Detox Lead to Fat Loss?

Here’s a disturbing fact: the average adult carries about five pounds of waste in their colon. Naturally, a colon cleanse will flush out that waste, causing weight loss as you no longer carry around that dead weight. While you shouldn’t expect to acquire six-pack abs from a colon detox, you can expect a modest amount of weight loss. We’ll outline the best colon cleanse for weight loss that you can begin today.

The Colon Cleanse Weight Loss Connection

According to a 2016 cross-sectional study, the average American acquires more than 50 percent of their daily calorie intake from processed foods. This includes frozen microwavable dinners, soda pop, hormone-injected meat, greasy spoons, etc. It’s no wonder years of eating junk results in waste and toxin buildup in the colon, liver and intestines. The chemicals and artificial preservatives eventually cling to the inner lining of the intestinal walls. Aside from weight gain, other consequences include poor digestion, constipation and difficult bowel movements.

Is there proof, though, that a colon detox actually leads to measurable weight loss? In a Korean study1, obese women who went on a lemon juice detox program for seven days saw a reduction in body fat. Granted, these were overweight subjects with more pre-existing waste buildup in their body. Can people already in decent shape expect the same results? We believe so, though the total amount of weight loss should be lower since they don’t have as much colonic waste to begin with.

What Is the Best Colon Cleanse for Weight Loss?

There isn’t a single top colon cleanse program that we can definitively say is best for weight loss. In past posts, we have made lists of colon cleanse foods and colon cleanse recipes that we suggest you check out.

As we noted in previous detox posts, we don’t recommend going on any cleanse for the sole and specific purpose of weight loss. The primary goal should be better gut and digestive health. Treat any weight loss as a secondary benefit.

Since we have already done posts on colon cleansing foods and diets, there’s no need to beat a dead horse in that topic area. Instead, we’re going to list a daily sample plan that incorporates some of the foods and recipes from the prior posts. We’ll also incorporate additional measures like intermittent fasting, another proven internal body cleanser that also aids in weight loss.

Diet Plan for a Colon Cleanse Weight Loss

A colon cleanse program the UMZU way goes something like this.

The cleanse consists of seven-day cycles. Each morning, you will skip breakfast and fast until lunch. You will, however, consume one serving of a detox drink from our list of colon cleanse recipes. Do this first thing in the morning.

Between lunch and dinner, you will consume another detox drink followed by a small snack of whole fruits. You will not consume anything after dinner. This ensures at least a 16-hour time-frame between dinner and the next day’s lunch, which is the average fasting time in an intermittent fast. Lunch and dinner can be anything you like that is from our list of colon cleansing foods. You may incorporate any additional ingredients not on the list as long as they’re all-natural. You will not consume any processed foods whatsoever, not even a morsel.

Sample Plan

  • 7:00 am – wake up – consume one-cup green tea
  • 12:00 pm – lunch – wild-caught salmon fillet with lemon-juice-infused flavoring, two servings of your choice of cruciferous vegetables, a side serving of lentils.
  • 3:00 pm – snack time – your choice of whole fruit, consume one to two servings
  • 5:30 pm – consume one-cup cayenne pepper cleanse
  • 7:30 pm – dinner – one serving grass-fed lean steak with garlic for flavoring, one whole avocado, one serving of a fermented dish, such as sauerkraut or kimchi
  • 8:00 pm – one serving of Digestive Refresh (optional)

A Few Notes About the Colon Cleansing Plan

The plan is quite simple, though be aware that you will get cravings, especially if you have been consuming processed junk food your whole life. However, staying on course for seven days is very much doable.

Though we didn’t mention it in the sample plan, you should also drink plenty of water during this time. We especially recommend sipping water between wake-up and lunch. There will be several hours until your first meal. Drinking water will keep any hunger pangs in check. We recommend anywhere from 10 to 16 cups of plain water. If plain water is too bland, you can mix it up by consuming infused water. See our list of detox drinks, which consists mainly of fruit and vegetable-infused H2O. They’re virtually calorie-free and count as part of your water consumption.

You may also notice we included meat in the meals, which contradicts with other colon cleanse of which diets you may have heard. We do not believe meat and animal-derived products are the enemy. This is assuming, though, that the meat comes from an organic and grass-fed source.

Feel Better and Lighter with a Colon Cleanse

Try this plan for seven days and see how you feel. We wager the majority will feel a physical and mental difference. Will you lose weight? We can’t say for certain; that depends on the existing amount of waste already in your colon. We do believe, though, that the plan we outlined is the best colon cleanse for weight loss because it incorporates multiple elements of a whole-body detox.
