3 Foods That Kill Testosterone Levels

Just like there are food groups that help boost testosterone, there are also foods that lower testosterone levels.

Many of these T-lowering foods are claimed to be “”healthy”” by mainstream media and nutritionists…

But when you look at the scientific studies behind the effects of these foods within the body, one thing is very clear: they are detrimental for your testosterone and your hormonal health.

In this quick article, I’m going to lay out the 3 types of food you should avoid at all costs if you want to maintain T-levels that are high.

1.) Foods High in Vegetable Oils

Common vegetable oils include canola oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil, peanut oil, corn oil, and cottonseed oil.

Vegetable oil contain extremely high amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids, also known as PUFAs.

PUFAs wreak havoc on your hormonal health and are directly related to lower T-levels.

In fact, there was a study done in 1997 that demonstrated the effects of different types of fats on testosterone production.

Here are the key findings:

  • An increase in total fat intake increased T-levels
  • An increased intake of monounsaturated fats increased T-levels
  • An increased intake of saturated fats increased T-levels
  • An increased intake of polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) decreased T-levels.

So do yourself a favor and avoid all kinds of vegetable oil and any product that contains them.

2.) Flaxseeds and Flaxseed Products

Flaxseeds have become a very popular “”health food”” due to mainstream media and the general culture of the nutrition industry today.

However, when you actually look at the studies done on flaxseeds and how they affect the body, you discover that flaxseeds are everything but a health food.

Flax seeds contain extremely high concentrations of a compound called “”lignans.”” Lignans are highly estrogenic, work against the conversion of testosterone to DHT, and they reduce total and free testosterone.

To illustrate my point further, let’s look at a study done on flaxseeds.

This particular study took 25 males and gave them 30 grams of flaxseeds per day for 30 days. The results?

The average drop in total testosterone was 15% and the average drop in free testosterone was 20%!

For this reason, we highly recommend against the consumption of all flaxseeds and flaxseed products.

3.) Soy Products

There are many controversial topics around soy products, one of them being their effect on testosterone.

One reason soy products may be detrimental to your testosterone is because they contain a high amount of phytoestrogens known as isoflavones.

The different types of isoflavones include genistein, daidzein, and glycitein. These have been shown to activate estrogen receptors while simultaneously down regulate androgen receptor activity.

Soy is also highly “”goitrogenic,”” meaning that is disrupts the production of thyroid hormones. Suppressed thyroid activity is the leading cause of low testosterone in men today!

That being said, soy products are definitely something you want to avoid if you want to enjoy the benefits of high testosterone.
